Geo-Caching & Orienteering at Betteshanger Park

Year 3 had a great time at Betteshanger Park this week. They visited the popular local site to enhance their learning in Geography and Science. The pupils developed their mapping skills by participating in challenging Geo-Caching and Orienteering activities which involved them walking all around the park to solve clues, find hidden caches and spot points on the orienteering map. One of the children was wearing a pedometer device which showed that they had walked over 15,000 steps by the time they got back on the coach at the end of the trip. During the Fossil Hunting workshop, led by an enthusiastic local Geologist, the children had lots of fun using tools to dig around and smash up rocks in search of fossils. Each class made some interesting fossil finds during their sessions and were fortunate enough to be allowed to keep their finds to take home. Some of the fossils are millions of years old, which everyone found amazing.  During lunchtime, the children had some time to play on the fabulous play equipment and their laughter could probably be heard right across the park! A lovely educational day out for all involved.
