Art and History for Year 1

An excited group of Year 1 children and teachers travelled to Margate on Wednesday, sharing the coach journey with our older and caring Year 5 children. However both year groups went their own way on arrival in sunny Margate.   Year 1 visited the quirky shell grotto with its underground passages and ornate patterned walls. This unique historical discovery was made in 1838 and its origins still remain a mystery.

Our inspired children then took a trip to the beach to find shells and build sandcastles. They were very keen to bury Mrs Rosenz and nearly did but decided not to leave her in the sand!  Naturally no pictures were taken.  Then followed a walk to the Turner Contemporary to view the latest installation finding out about ‘The Three Graces’ (textile techniques to create sculptures that explore themes of identity, religion and cultural heritage), they then had fun creating their own mythical creations.

Lunch followed, a particular tasty treat because the children made their own favourite sandwiches and fruit salad, which were devoured with relish! Of course, the day finished with a delicious ice-cream or ice-lolly treat.
