Able Writers Day

Four KS1 pupils were selected to attend an Able Writers Day at Hoath Primary School, led by the children's author Ciaran Murtagh. As well as his 35 published books, Ciaran has written over 500 episodes of various children's television series such as Shaun the Sheep, Furchester Hotel and Topsy and Tim.

In the first session we talked about the importance of a catchy title, character profiles and exciting plot twists which captivate readers. After lunch it was time to write our own masterpieces.

The children began by taking part in preparation activities, selecting titles for their own pieces using a page from the dictionary. Thus The Rotten Robot, The Lightning Leopard  and Beware of Bogus Bill were selected! They built a character profile from a photograph and began to write.

By the end of the session some fantastic stories were in full flow. At the end of the day we brought some of Ciaran's books including a signed copy for our library at St Faiths. What a fantastic day!
